‘On Tuesday 17th of April we brought the best footballers from years 8 & 9 to play in the British Council Football 7 Infantile tournament. We were drawn in the tougher group along with Kensington, St. Annes, Kings and ICS. We had a very strong team and I knew that if we played with intensity that we had the quality to play well against anybody. The first game started fantastically with a 2-0 win over ICS and a fantastic goal from Victor! The second game we played against the ever strong Kings team and the entire team worked as a unit and showed real quality winning 2-1. The third match we played against Kensington and were unlucky in the match as we dominated possession but could not scored and conceded 3 goals against the run of play. Knowing that we had to win the final match of the group- the team played with confidence and won 5-0
We progressed to the semi final to play against St. Georges, the winners of the other group. It was a real battle, both teams showing fatigue but in the second half Arturo De Mingo picked the ball up inside his own half, dribbled past 3 players and scored a fantastic goal. The boys were then able to hold on for a 1-0 Victory.
The final saw us play against the British Council School, the hosts. After 5 games both teams were extremely tired. BC got a lucky break for the first goal which meant that we had to press forward looking for a goal, at which point we were caught on the counter attack and BC ran out as winners.
Overall, an excellent performance from the boys and there is a lot of potential for the future. The silver medal well deserved!’ Mr. O’Riordan
