The standard of this year’s Christmas Shows was incredibly high. Than...
Great fun was had by all during the last week of school. Students and staff enjoyed House Sports Day, Parque de Attractiones, Prize-Giving, Acro-Sports demonstration, performances from the Battle of the Band winners, and the inaugural Form Dance Competition. We wish all members of the ISM family a restful and joyful summer holiday and we look forward to seeing everyone back at school in September refreshed and ready to learn.
‘Two evening shows, plus a matinée with ISM Primary and pupils from Numont School ended a whole year of preparation by a close-knit team of pupils from Years 6 to 13: from actors, dancers, make-up and sound and light technicians, directors, mothers who prepared costumes, the art department who created wonderful masks and other items, and Alfonso Forga, who helped to put together incredible stage items and animal structures. The singing, acting and dancing were impeccable and very professional. A big thankyou to Conchita Sande, the Director, together with Sarah Kingston, Mr. Roberto, Clare and Begoña in the Art room with their Art students, and all the actors, actresses, and many others behind the scenes, for what, for many, is the best musical so far, from an artistic, as well as a technical point of view. A magical event in which the audience experienced the full beauty of the Savannah. Well done to all involved! We are already looking forward to next year´s musical! ‘
On Friday 27th the Year 11 and some Y12 pupils were confirmed in the Arturo Soria church of the Carmelitas Descalzas. The church was filled with families, friends, teachers and classmates in an emotional service where the choir, led by Ms Carveth, took an active part, as well as Father Edwin and Ms Leticia. The sense of family was evident in the whole service.
The Spanish Fair (also known as ‘Feria Española’) has been a tradition at ISM for over forty years. The children come to school dressed in traditional Spanish costume and are allowed to speak Spanish throughout the day. During the afternoon the teachers and older pupils run various stalls and games for children and parents to enjoy. There are also musical performances on the main stage. All of the proceeds from the Spanish Fair go to charity. This year over 2500€ was raised, which will go to the Cruz Roja here in Madrid and will also help support our sponsor child, via the charity Plan.
On Monday 16th April, Tim Hemmings, Head of Mission of the British Embassy, presented the seven awards obtained by our students in 2017 in front of the whole of the secondary school and the families of the awardees. Mr. Wickham explained that the school had received many of these outstanding learner awards for IGCSEs and Advanced Level examinations, ranking 1st or 2nd in Spain for the number of awards, every year since 2008.
We are very proud of our students and teachers. Once again this shows that ISM pupils can reach their highest potential and access the best universities, as confirmed by the recent offers our Year 13 students have received from Cambridge University, Imperial College, UCL, SOAS LSE and many more.
