Why choose the
International School of Madrid?
We are a British school in Madrid. Our well qualified and experienced teachers follow the English National Curriculum, which means that students gain an education as if they were in a school in the UK. Classes are taught in English and delivered in the British way. The academic standard of our school is high. 100% of students that graduated in 2023 are currently at university. We recognise that each student is unique and care passionately about their social and moral development. We are committed to providing the best possible start in life for every one of our pupils.
But don’t just take our word for it. Contact us to arrange a visit and come and see for yourself. The admissions process is open throughout the year and we are always happy to arrange individual tours.
We follow the British Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum.
The curriculum is based around four key principles:
Every child is a unique child, who is constantly learning and can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured.
Children learn to be independent and strong through positive relationships.
Children learn and develop well in enabling environments, in which their experiences respond to their individual needs and there is a strong partnership between school and home.
Children develop and learn in different ways and at different rates and all areas of learning and development are important and inter-connected.
Pre-School
20 months – 2 years of age
We believe all children deserve the opportunity to achieve their full potential. Our Pre-Nursery class, for children aged from 20 months to 2 years, is led by three qualified teachers and there is one adult for every four children. This means that pupils receive a high level of individual and personalised care, whilst learning and developing in the company of their friends.

Early Years
3 –5 years of age

Primary
5 – 7 years of age
In Years 1 and 2 of Primary we follow the English National Curriculum. We build on the firm base that children have received in the Foundation Stage and provide pupils with a broad and balanced curriculum that allows them to become confident and enthusiastic learners. The curriculum favours a practical and creative approach and encourages children to understand how their skills can be applied to real-life situations.
Each child has a native speaking, British-trained form Teacher, who aside from being responsible for their pastoral care, teaches pupils English, Mathematics, Science, History, Geography, Art, Design & Technology and PSHE (Personal, Social & Health Education). In addition, pupils are taught by specialist teachers for Physical Education, Music, Computing and, if chosen, Religion. All pupils also receive, as required by law, a daily lesson of Spanish (Lengua y Literatura).

Excursions
Get in touch
Field trips and excursions are essential for pupils’ learning, offering hands-on experiences that ignite curiosity and create lasting memories. At the International School of Madrid, all classes participate in multiple trips annually, exploring farms, art galleries, museums, and nature parks.
Recent trips have included La Granja Escuela El Rodeo, the Prado Museum, and wildlife parks like Faunia and Madrid Zoo. Pupils enjoy activities such as rock climbing, orienteering, and skating.
Secondary students take part in residential trips focusing on language, geography, and science, both in Spain and abroad. Destinations include the Sierra de Gredos, London, and CERN. Pupils in Years 7 to 9 attend an induction camp each September, while an annual skiing trip and a camping week for Years 3 to 6 enrich their experience further.
