About the
International School of Madrid
Our School
British International School in Madrid since 1971
50 years of academic excellence
The International School of Madrid is a leading private British school, conveniently located in the Charmartín neighbourhood in the centre of Madrid.
Since 1971 we have offered an excellent, broad and balanced education to students from around the world. Now home to over 800 pupils aged between 2 and 18, the school follows the English National Curriculum and is known for its child-centred approach, happy atmosphere and high standards of academic achievement.
Classes are taught in English and delivered in the British way by well-qualified and experienced teachers, which means that students gain an education as if they were in a school in the UK.
We pride ourselves on being a friendly, family school where, no matter whether children are Spanish or international, they will be happy, successful and make friends for life.
Our
Values
Respect. Loyalty. Friendship. Family.
Successful students prepared for university, for life ahead, and for the demands of the 21st century.
An inclusive school which welcomes and values all of its students and their families, we aim to create a family/community atmosphere where children feel safe and secure and in which there is fluid communication between home and school.
Our

We provide a broad and balanced curriculum which:
- Promotes the academic, spiritual, physical, cultural and moral development of students;
- Prepares children for adult life and encourages them to become good citizens – showing respect, loyalty and friendship towards others;
- Allows children to become fluent and proficient users of the English and Spanish languages, whatever their native tongue is.
Our

Generates high levels of student engagement and enthusiasm and allows students to become confident, secure and independent learners.
Promotes high standards of achievement and allows all children to develop to the best of their ability, both personally and academically;

Headteacher's Welcome
Welcome to the International School of Madrid. A family school in the heart of the city.
Many schools call themselves a family school but this is 100% the case here at ISM. Family-owned since its inception our focus is not profit but the creation of a learning environment where students thrive. Management decisions are solely focused on the learners in the school, not investors demanding a return.
A family school where each child is known individually and their pathway to success, whatever it may be, is supported. Staff meet and greet each child by name. Our families stay in the school – grandchildren of our alumni are current students.
Our recent parent survey revealed 92.2% as satisfied or very satisfied with the quality of education and 97% feeling their child is safe and happy in school. Inspection reports highlight the school as having strong core values and made it clear they were embodied in the spirit of the school.
Pupils have respect for each other, for their teachers, their family and their environment. The loyalty they have to each other is undoubted; the friendships that abide are clear in our alumni events where the friendship forged here at ISM survive and indeed thrive. Within our community, these values give us a sense of purpose and direction.
The school’s strength is its longevity. As a founding member of NABSS, the association of 80+ British Schools in Spain, we have grown and succeeded hand in hand with our families. Our students leave us to the best universities in the world: Oxbridge, Russell Group, Ivy League and the best universities in Spain and the EU.
Outstanding Learner Awards, given by the UK examination boards, are awarded to students who achieve the highest marks in GCSE & A-Level subjects globally. ISM students have received more of these awards than any other school in Spain and have done so across a range of subjects. This outstanding success is testament to the quality of learning and teaching at ISM.
We offer our students the opportunity to be creative but also develop the values we embed in our curriculum. We want to help them be good people alongside realising their potential in a world of work and life. ISM students leave us with a high degree of literacy and numeracy, fluency in at least two languages but also equipped with the problem-solving, collaborative skills and emotional intelligence to thrive in the world
I am so proud to be Head of School here at ISM and I look forward to welcoming you here in person to see the school for yourself in all its vibrancy and happiness.
